Save pedestrians

Daniel (Road safety coordinator) and Russell from ACC went around to secondary schools to demonstrate the risk for pedestrians when a vehicle travels at higher speeds.
This demonstration showed that the higher the speed the longer it takes to stop to avoid a collision. Peter, a professional driving instructor from Prodriver Training drove the car.
There were two "pedestrians" – made of corflute signs that were put on the road just to make it look more realistic.
The message was to show students what could happen if they don’t slow down with the main aim not to hit the pedestrians. First at 40km/h, then at 50km/h and the last run at 59 km/h. The roads were closed to traffic during these demonstrations.
At 40 and below 50 km/h the pedestrians were not hit but at 50 it came close! What intrigued me was that most students encouraged Peter to actually hit these “pedestrians”!
